Obituary of Dorothy Erma Herren

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Dorothy Erma King passed away on March 29, 2020 beside her husband of 72 years in their family home. Born February 8, 1932 in the farming community of Ogden, Utah the third child and first daughter of Herman King and Opal Walters, Dorothy was a descendant of pioneers of the west who traveled across the United States by wagon train to settle Utah as a home for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Dorothy met and married her husband, Donald Vernon Herren, during her teen years and they had 5 children, the eldest of which died soon after his birth. Dorothy and Don began their lives together in Nyssa, Oregon and moved their family to Santa Cruz, California in the late 1950’s where Dorothy held various bookkeeping positions before working in real estate while Donald worked in the grocery business as a produce manager. In the 1970’s Dorothy & Don realized a lifelong dream and opened their own grocery store, B & H Market on Ocean Street. Dorothy and Don remained active in their community and the lives of their developing children through volunteer efforts in the area of coaching of athletics and leadership in LDS relief society/youth church activities. They thoroughly enjoyed following the activities of their children and eventually their grandchildren. Industrious and energetic throughout her life, Dorothy is remembered by the lovely home she kept, creative decorating, and her artistry in the kitchen. She prepared delicious meals for more people than can be counted and in her passing many of the condolence messages mention her potato salad. Her recipes will continue to grace the tables at family gatherings well into the future. Dorothy and Don followed their adult children to the State of Washington and settled in Auburn. They enjoyed their snow-bird years, keeping a second home in Arizona for winter month escapes to warmer weather. Dorothy is survived by her best friend, husband and lifelong love, Donald, her 3 sisters Bonnie Santos, Pamela King, and Diana Arnott, as well as her four children Dennis Kip Herren (Julie), Rulon Dee Herren (Terri), Boyd Harrison Herren (Pat), and Candace Jean Herren Owens Martin, as well as, 11 grandchildren Dennis, Corrie, Ruth, Dusten, April, Brian, K.C., Natalie, Kate, Kristin, Haylee and 24 great-grandchildren.
