Obituary of Lola Doris Robbins

Lola Doris Robbins (1918-2020) Lola D. Robbins, beloved wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and great grandmother, blessedly passed peacefully away at home with her family on April 27th, 2020 after enjoying nearly 102 years with her family & friends. Lola was born on her family’s farm outside of Cleo Springs and Aline, Oklahoma on June 26, 1918 to Clayton Warren & Viola Hazel (Stewart) Hughes. Her place of birth is listed as Cleo Springs, Oklahoma. Her family lived in OK during her early years, moving to Milton, WA when she was 16. After graduating from Puyallup High School, Lola went to the College of Puget Sound (CPS), now the University of Puget Sound, earning a bachelor’s degree in Home Ec., a teaching certificate and a minor in Sociology. Lola had a beautiful singing voice. She played the lead in her high school musical and toured with the CPS Adelphian Concert Choir. In later years, she sang solos at weddings, funerals and for other occasions. She taught high school in Bellingham WA until, on October 6, 1943, she married her sweetheart, Charles D. Robbins, while he was home on leave from the Army Air Corps. Later she joined him in Sioux Falls, SD. When WWII was over Chuck attended CPS, thanks to the GI bill, while Lola worked at Puget Sound Hospital in Tacoma as a social worker. Chuck then transferred to WSU to earn an Electrical Engineering degree and Lola taught classes at Eastern Washington University. She also taught as a substitute teacher at various times during her life. Lola & Chuck settled in Federal Way where they built a house. While this was always home base, Lola and Chuck lived in Brazil (twice), Illinois, California, North Dakota, Iran and Georgia. Lola lived her life with love and compassion for everyone, which shined out to others through her charming smile. Lola’s greatest love was for her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and all of her extended family. Lola is survived by her 4 children, Sharon Renneberg (Mike) of Lake Tapps, Douglas Robbins (Catherine) of Oklahoma City, Timothy Robbins (Kathy) of Federal Way, and Todd Robbins (Teresa) of Maple Valley. In addition, Lola was blessed with 21 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Due to corona virus restrictions only her immediate family will be with her when she is laid to rest next to her husband, Chuck, at Mountain View Cemetery in Auburn WA. As a memorial, the family will be distributing a video in celebration of Lola’s life.
